Definition
The tens place is the second position from the right in a whole number. Each group of ten ones makes one ten.
Think of bundling 10 single sticks together to make one bundle of ten. The tens place tells you how many bundles of ten you have.
Examples
- In 30, the 3 in the tens place means 3 groups of ten.
- In 74, the 7 in the tens place is worth 70.
- 10 ones = 1 ten.
