Definition
The remainder is the amount left over when a number cannot be divided evenly. It is always less than the divisor.
If you share 13 cookies among 4 friends, each gets 3 cookies and there is 1 cookie left over. That leftover cookie is the remainder.
Examples
- 13 / 4 = 3 remainder 1, because 4 x 3 = 12 and 13 - 12 = 1.
- 17 / 5 = 3 remainder 2.
- 10 / 3 = 3 remainder 1.
