Ratio

Grades 4–5

Definition

A ratio compares two quantities by showing how much of one thing there is compared to another. It can be written as 3:2, 3 to 2, or 3/2.

Examples

  • If there are 3 boys and 2 girls, the ratio of boys to girls is 3:2.
  • A recipe uses flour and sugar in a ratio of 4:1.
  • The ratio of wheels to cars is 4:1.
