Parallel lines are two lines that are always the same distance apart and never cross or touch, no matter how far they extend.
Imagine two straight roads running side by side. No matter how far you follow them, they never meet. Those roads are parallel.

- The opposite sides of a rectangle are parallel.
- Railroad tracks are parallel lines.
- The lines on ruled notebook paper are parallel.
