Odd Number

Definition

An odd number is a whole number that cannot be divided evenly into two equal groups. Odd numbers end in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9.

If you try to split an odd number of objects into two equal piles, there will always be one left over.

Examples

  • 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 are odd numbers.
  • 15 is odd because 15 / 2 = 7 remainder 1.
  • 23 is odd because it ends in 3.
