Definition
The numerator is the top number in a fraction. It tells how many parts you have out of the whole.
If a pizza is cut into 8 slices and you eat 3, the numerator (3) counts the slices you ate.
Examples
- In 3/4, the numerator is 3.
- In 1/2, the numerator is 1.
- In 5/8, the numerator is 5, meaning you have 5 out of 8 parts.
