Multiplication

Definition

Multiplication is a quick way of adding the same number over and over. It combines equal groups to find the total.

Think of multiplication as arranging objects into rows and columns. 3 x 4 means 3 rows with 4 in each row, giving 12 total.

Examples

  • 3 x 4 = 12 (three groups of four).
  • 5 x 6 = 30.
  • 7 x 8 = 56.
