Definition
An input-output table shows the relationship between two sets of numbers using a rule. You put a number in (input), apply the rule, and get a number out (output).
Think of a machine with a funnel on top and a chute at the bottom. You drop a number in the top, the machine does something to it, and a new number comes out the bottom.
Examples
- Rule: add 3. Input 2 gives output 5; input 5 gives output 8.
- Rule: multiply by 2. Input 4 gives output 8; input 7 gives output 14.
- Rule: subtract 1. Input 10 gives output 9.
