Hundreds

Grades 1–4

Definition

The hundreds place is the third position from the right in a whole number. One hundred equals 10 groups of ten or 100 ones.

If you stack 10 bundles of ten sticks, you get a flat of 100. The hundreds place tells how many flats you have.

Examples

  • In 500, the 5 in the hundreds place means 5 groups of one hundred.
  • In 263, the 2 in the hundreds place is worth 200.
  • 10 tens = 1 hundred.
