Definition
A fraction is a number that represents a part of a whole. It is written as one number over another, separated by a line, like 1/2.
Imagine cutting a pie into equal slices. A fraction tells you how many slices you have compared to how many the whole pie was cut into.
Examples
- 1/2 means one out of two equal parts.
- 3/4 means three out of four equal parts.
- If you eat 2 out of 8 slices of pizza, you ate 2/8 of the pizza.
