Expression

Grades 3–5

Definition

An expression is a combination of numbers, variables, and operations (like +, -, x, /) that represents a value. Unlike an equation, an expression does not have an equals sign.

Examples

  • 3 + 5 is an expression.
  • 2x + 7 is an expression with a variable.
  • (4 x 3) - 2 is an expression that equals 10.
