Decimal Point

Definition

A decimal point is the dot placed between the whole-number part and the fractional part of a decimal number. It separates ones from tenths.

Examples

  • In 3.5, the decimal point separates 3 (whole) from 5 (tenths).
  • In 12.75, the decimal point comes after 12.
  • $4.99 has a decimal point separating dollars from cents.
