Bar Graph

Grades 1–5

Definition

A bar graph uses rectangular bars of different lengths or heights to show and compare data. The taller or longer the bar, the greater the value.

Imagine building towers of blocks, one tower for each category. The tallest tower wins! A bar graph works the same way, making it easy to compare values at a glance.

Examples

  • A bar graph showing favorite fruits: apples (10), bananas (7), grapes (5).
  • Each bar in the graph represents a category.
  • Bar graphs can be horizontal or vertical.
