Area is the amount of space inside a flat shape. It is measured in square units, such as square centimeters or square inches.
Imagine covering a table with square tiles. The number of tiles needed to cover the table completely is the area.
Examples
- A rectangle 4 cm by 3 cm has an area of 12 square cm.
- A square with side 5 has an area of 25 square units.
- Area of a rectangle = length x width.
