Addend

Grades K–3

Definition

An addend is any number that is being added to another number. In an addition problem, the numbers being added are called addends.

Examples

  • In 3 + 5 = 8, both 3 and 5 are addends.
  • In 10 + 7 = 17, the addends are 10 and 7.
  • In 1 + 2 + 4 = 7, there are three addends: 1, 2, and 4.
